Test The Pie Competition Result
Wed, Aug 4 2010 08:43
We were deluged with an almighty 53 entries for our recent competition, in which entrants were asked to identify the 10 tracks contained within our Record Store Day 2010 RATM / Fresh Prince mash-up thingy "Test The Pie".
The closest to getting them all correct was Aye Tunes blog writer Mr Jim Connick! Well done Jim! He shall be receiving a variety of YAK related goods, including a hoodie, t-shirt, various CDs, and some very rare YAK memorabilia!
In order to put some minds at rest, here's the 10 correct references, as scribbled down on a bit of card on the night Keef laid down the vocal tracks:
1.Rage Against The Machine : Testify
2.DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince : Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
3.Will Smith : Miami
4.Will Smith : Black Suits Comin (Nod Ya Head)
5.Limp Bizkit : Break Stuff
6.Limp Bizkit : Nookie
7.Daft Punk : Da Funk
8.Take The High Road Theme Tune
9.Limp Bizkit : Rollin
10.DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince : Boom! Shake The Room
Now, for those of you who have yet to experience the YAK vs RATM vs Will Smith track, here's a video i just put together for it. Enjoy!

TOO MUCH STUFF AT ONCE Part 1
Wed, Jun 23 2010 02:10
Howdy everyone.... anyone? Hmmmm.
We've recorded *almost* everything for album 2. It's been a completely different adventure this time. This time we've gone for a live vibe.... minimal overdubbage has been applied... some tracks have no overdubs at all. Fuck knows when we'll put it out tho. Probably early 2011. If you run a record label, or have some cash you'd like to inject into the YAK kitty, get in touch.
We are planning on putting out an EP of new shit later on this year, and we will of course be booking as many gigs as we can squeeze into our already rather hectic schedules. As soon as we have something to try and sell you, we'll be in touch. Or just buy loads of merch and we'll leave you alone. :-)
We should hopefully have some shows to announce soon.... hopefully.
I'm starting up a recording studio business using all this wicked new gear i've amassed in the process of building the YAK studio, Stef just got a new job writing extensively about Vuvuzelas and East Kilbride, Duncs hands are falling off and Keef has been harrassing the folks at Monster Energy Juice about getting an endorsement. None of us have "got the AIDS" or joined Modest Mouse. Yet.
We'll be moving out of Avalanche / Love Music / The Nest at the start of July, and relocating to The Arc, also in this fair city known as Glasgow. This is tied in with my new business venture, and also because we all want to give Ali at the Arc a good bumming. He's a smashing fellow, although we're not really all that sure how much he likes being bummed, so maybe those impulses may be a little misplaced. Whatever, we're moving house, back to our old house.
We've got a shiteload of "making the album" footage, courtesy of YAK FAN #1 Mr Rusty Moorington, which will no doubt see the light of day at some point before the world ends in 2012. There's been a handfull of his photo's uploaded to our Facebook page too. I won't link it, you have to find it for yourself. Rusty did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of a YAK album creative endeavour, and i look forward to sharing his work with you. Go Rusty!
I'll be making a video to go with our RATM / Fresh Prince mashup at some point very soon. Once it's online, we'll let the competition run for a few more weeks and then close it. Theres been a surprisingly large amount of entries so far.... some folks are very very close indeed to getting all 10 tracks within that cover.... some folks are clearly retarded, and have a fundamental problem understanding the concept of "covers". Very odd. Anyway, the competitions still open. Check out earlier blog posts if you don't know what i'm talking about.
Cheers for still giving a shit. We promise that the new album will make you shit your drawers, or if you don't have drawers, it'll aid you in wherever you prefer to leave your droppings.

Covers EP Tracklisting + Competition
Thu, Apr 8 2010 12:36
On Saturday April 17th 2010, record stores worldwide will celebrate the second annual Record Store Day with a flurry of special events, exclusive products and a unanimous party atmostphere. The industry may well be utterly fucked, but the indies fight on!
This year, we will be playing a set at Avalanche Records in Glasgow, this shop in which one of us works, and we rehearse, record and write in. We have recorded 4 tracks especially for the event, which will be released on a very, very limited edition CD. These will be on sale in Avalanche Glasgow on Record Store Day ONLY.
So, without any more dicking about, here's the tracklist:
1. Testify / Fresh Prince Rap (aka Test The Pie) [RATM/Will Smith]
2. Psycho Killer [Talking Heads]
3. Bury White [Far]
4. My Weakness Is None Of Your Business [Embrace]
Pretty fucked up tracklist for sure, and you really have no idea just how screwy this whole thing is. The first track, lovingly titled "Test The Pie" features 10 covers in one. The first person to name all 10 tracks referenced in it will win a YAK t-shirt! Now, don't worry if you can't get to Glasgow to buy a CD on the 17th, the track will feature in a YAKtv episode soon, at which point the competition will officially begin. Stay tuned for more info, and potentially some track previews.
